The 2.4 GHZ Network Back haul
My Aunt Cindy moved to a nearby residence only 1,826 Feet from me and she wanted network access to my media server so I took it apon myself to make it happen.
The system is comprised of two 19dbi parabolic grid antennas two Linksys WRT54GL Radios running 3d party firmware "DDWRT".
I appropriated a larger weather tight enclosure at the base of my wind generator tower to house the Linksys radio and PoE adapter With the help of a forklift and some bronze I attached my antenna to my tower approx 25ft up the tower.
On Aunt Cindy's end the same antenna mounted to a adjustable tube mount bracket and the same Linksys radio in her house. LOS 1,826 Feet Via Google Earth
TX power 70 MW. 30% SIG Using the WRT54GL' my end transmits an secured Signal and hers is the bridge that picks it up. Why did I Do it well just because I can, I have a degree in networking and I love SOHO networking I love tinkering with cool shit like this and anyway's I'm that kinda guy that just happened to have the antennas radios and cabling on hand ha ha. I'm a big GEEK lets face it. Anywho me and my aunt can party over their via the wireless link with music and entertainment and I was working on a VOIP internal phone network so she got a ip phone and an extension 101 and we have 100 on my dads phone and im running a free 3cx IP PBX software so we have the secure hotline from here to their 24-7. Only thoughts is I want to get a 24dbi Gain antenna on my end and get it up to 30ft on my tower so i can get a true Line Of Sight because once the leaves on the trees come in they will absorb a great deal of the microwave signal degrading throughput.
